Umkumbe Safari Lodge Riverside is located in the Sabie Game Reserve, considered by many to be the premier wildlife reserve in South Africa. Located on the banks of the seasonal Sand River, Umkumbe is perfectly situated in one of the top Big 5 game viewing destinations in Africa.
This Kruger safari lodge is easily accessible via either a self drive from Johannesburg or flying. The closest airports are Skukuza and Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA) in Nelspruit. The self drive takes 6 hours from Johannesburg. The flight takes approximately 1 hour.

Faq’s
Can transportation be added to the quote?
Yes, you may inquire with bookings@safarilife.co.za to add transportation costs to the quote. Pick-up and drop-off can be from nearby airports such as MQP/KMIA or Skukuza airport. There are also affordable shuttles available from and back to OR Tambo at set time.
Are park fees/conservation fees included?
No, your daily park entry / conservation fees can be paid upon check-out at the lodge. You can also add these in advance at the pre-booking of park fees price. Please inquire with bookings@safarilife.co.za to add these in advance.
What is included and excluded in the accommodation price?
RATE INCLUDES:
Rates include all meals, game walks & drives, teas & coffees.
RATE EXCLUDES:
Rates exclude drinks, all conservation levies (please see details alongside), all items of a personal nature, any item not described above.
CHILDREN RATES:
Children 12 and older pay the full adult rate. Children under 12 pay 50% of the adult rate.
CHILDREN POLICY:
Children aged 5 and over are welcome.
CONSERVATION LEVIES:
Sabie Game Reserve Conservation levy: R500 per person per night (will be added to your invoice). This contribution goes towards conservation initiatives within the Sabie Game Reserve and surrounding areas.
NOTES:
- Rates are quoted in South African Rands.
- Rates are subject to change without prior notice. Rates include government taxes where applicable. If taxes increase, we reserve the right to increase the rate accordingly.
- We reserve the right to review rates at any given point without notice.
- Conservation levies and Gate Fees are subject to change without prior notice in the event of the Private Nature Reserves amending or adding levies due to budgetary needs.
When is the best time to visit?
It is always a good time, as different animals thrive during different times of the year. You need to consider your schedule, the weather and availability at the lodge. The dry season can start in April and continue to mid November before it rains. Around October/November it can be very dry in the park where predators thrive more, breeding season starts after the first rains when it gets very green.

Umkumbe Safari Lodge enforces a tiered cancellation policy based on the timing of your cancellation relative to your arrival date:

31 days or more before arrival: Forfeit 20% of the booking total.

30 to 8 days before arrival: Forfeit 50% of the booking total.

7 days or less before arrival: Forfeit 80% of the booking total.

No-show or same-day cancellation: Forfeit 100% of the booking total.
